María Cano

María Cano develops her photographic work from an intimate and personal gaze on nature and the everyday.

Born in Cardeña (Córdoba), she currently lives between Madrid and the countryside of Ávila, after having lived for several years in Moscow in two stages, during Perestroika and between 2017 and 2020, an experience that broadened her relationship with cultural and visual diversity. Essentially self-taught, complemented by studies at the Lens School of Visual Arts in Madrid, she builds her work around abstraction. Through macro photography, long exposure and intentional camera movement (ICM), she transforms flowers, textures, shadows and small fragments of reality into images open to the imagination that seek to go beyond the visible.

Her work oscillates between the recognizable and the abstract, always preserving a delicate balance that invites interpretation. Her language explores light, color and movement to create ethereal, evocative forms, where the ephemeral becomes an almost organic presence. As she herself sums it up: "I photograph what the gaze discovers when it stops looking for the obvious." Each image is born between intention and discovery, and continues in the eyes of the person who contemplates it.

She has exhibited nationally and internationally at fairs and art spaces such as Red Dot Miami (Art Basel), International Art Gallery Paris, Art World Marbella, Galería Miim Spais Barcelona, Artist 360 Madrid, Espacio Mados, Maiko Art Gallery, Van Gogh Art Gallery and Galería FLECHA, among others, consolidating a career marked by a visual language of her own based on abstraction and sensory experience.
