The Last Refuge

Héctor Acevedo

Madrid · SEPT 2026 — JAN 2027

In The Last Refuge, Héctor Acevedo builds a symbolic bestiary where the human, the animal and the mechanical merge without hierarchy. Winged figures fold in on themselves amid forests of red spheres populated by tiny houses; serpents, dragons and hybrid creatures confront or embrace each other in dreamlike landscapes suspended between falling and flight.

Ernestina de
Champourcin

Before there was a gallery, there was a voice. Ernestina de Champourcin was born in Vitoria in 1905 and became one of the great poets of the Generación del 27, part of the singular circle known as Las Sinsombrero. A disciple of Juan Ramón Jiménez, she lived the avant-garde from Madrid's Lyceum Club Femenino, and after the Civil War crossed the ocean into exile in Mexico, where words became her way of holding on to the memory of what she had left behind. From her we inherit this name — and with it, her way of looking inward without ever stopping to look forward.

Joseph Firbas: Paper Crowns

Michels de Champourcin presents *Coronas de Papel* (Paper Crowns), an exhibition space dedicated to the Peruvian artist Joseph Firbas (Lima, 1962), who has recently joined the gallery’s roster. Two large-format portraits—*Origami Rojo I* (Red Origami I) and *Origami Blanco I* (White Origami I)—depict subjects crowned with sculptural paper folds, rendered in acrylic with near-photographic precision. Oscillating between ornament and armor, presence and withdrawal, Firbas transforms a humble, fragile material into the setting for a subtle psychological drama.
